Esk

The 10 Best things to do in Esk, Queensland

Esk is a quaint little country town in the Somerset region, which is nestled between Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast. Because it’s so close to both the Wivenhoe and Somerset dams, Esk is the perfect getaway for water sports enthusiasts.

But even if water sports aren’t your thing, there are plenty of other amazing things to do in the area.

The beautiful scenic drive to Esk

Here are the best things to when visiting Esk:

1 – Ride Australia’s longest Rail Trail

The Brisbane Valley Rail Trail is Australia’ longest recreational trail. It’s a must-do attraction for anyone visiting the Somerset Region.

Spanning 161 kilometres and passing through charming country towns, stunning countryside and serene bushland, the trail offers a unique opportunity to explore the region’s rich history and breathtaking landscapes.

The most popular way to tackle the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail is by bike. However, you can also hike it or even ride it on horseback. The choice is yours!

4 – Take a scenic drive around the lakes

The Somerset area is so picturesque that you need to see as much of it as you can. Hop in your car and drive the loop that takes you around both Lake Somerset and Lake Wivenhoe. The drive is around 80 kilometres long and there are many opportunities to stop for photos, or to check out small villages along the way. You can also take a dip in the lakes if the heat is getting to you.

5 – Drive up to Mt Glorious

A good option while driving the loop around the lakes is to take a detour up to Mt Glorious. The road up to Mt Glorious is a 27 kilometre long, steep and windy one but it’s worth it. At Mt Glorious there is a look out with views over Lake Wivenhoe and the Brisbane Valley.
